Weather Alert: Sunday Storm To Bring Damaging Winds & Heavy Rain

Potential Tropical Cyclone Eighteen could become Philippe on Saturday

Tropical Depression Eighteen has formed in the Caribbean and is forecast to become a tropical storm later Saturday or into Sunday. It will potentially make landfall as a tropical storm along the southern tip of the Florida Peninsula before continuing northeast into the western Atlantic. It was centered about 80 miles (130 kilometers) south of Havana and moving toward the north-northeast at 25 mph (41 kph). A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Coastal Miami-Dade County and The Upper Keys, from Craig Key to Golden Beach. Although they are expected to taper off in the afternoon, they should also resume this evening. An approaching trough will then cause Philippe to steer northeastward across the Florida Straits, continuing to be a rainmaker for Southwest Florida through Saturday night with rain tapering off by sunrise Sunday.

"While this is not now a developed storm, we know how quickly weather can change and how important it is for every family to be prepared", Florida Gov. Rick Scott said in a statement Friday.
