Tropical Storm Ophelia is strengthening and could become a Category 1 hurricane Wednesday night or Thursday, according to the 5 a.m. advisory Wednesday from the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center said in an advisory Wednesday afternoon that Ophelia gained hurricane status as its top sustained winds reached 75 miles per hour (120 kph). The storm may still strengthen over the next two days. No coastal watches or warnings have been issued so far in any of the European coasts, Nola reported.
