Tropical depression forms in SW Caribbean, heads toward Gulf of Mexico

Tropical Depression 16 formed Wednesday morning in the southwestern Caribbean Sea and is expected to become Tropical Storm Nate later in the day.

The National Hurricane Center is tracking a tropical depression that it predicts could become a hurricane before making landfall that could bring substantial rain to the Upstate over the weekend.

The depression is moving toward the northwest near 7 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour with higher gusts.
