The EPS and the RCMP Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) are now investigating the incidents as an Act of Terrorism.

A man was arrested on Sunday in connection with two "terror" attacks in Canada which saw a several pedestrians hit with a vehicle, and a police officer stabbed in Edmonton, officials said.

The driver reportedly got out of his vehicle and went on the attack- stabbing an officer several times.

He then jumped out of the vehicle and stabbed the cop "several times" and fled on foot as a dramatic manhunt was launched. A manhunt was launched and the officer was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Four people were injured in this incident.

Edmonton Police chief Rod Knecht said that officers took a suspect in custody and they think he acted alone.

The suspect then drove off at speed and rammed through the police checkpoint, triggering a high-speed chase through the downtown area, packed with Saturday night crowds.

"I thought a shot gun went off", witness Pat Hannigan said, describing the sound van made when it hit the sidewalk.

Officers say the driver intentionally swerved the van off the main road to mount the footpath, where he hit four pedestrians.

The officer while checking the driver's licence, recognised the name as being similar to that of the registered owner of the Malibu used in the earlier attack.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the attack in a statement that called it "another example of the hate that we must remain ever vigilant against". He was chased and arrested by police. However, he also added that police would investigate possible involvement of a group.
