Fox News said Jose was downgraded to a tropical storm late Thursday morning, but said forecasters believed it would become a Category 1 hurricane by the weekend.

The hurricane does not now pose a threat to land and forecasters expect few changes in its intensity.

The agency said that Jose is "expected to restrengthen by the weekend". It has maximum sustained winds of 70 miles per hour and is expected to restrengthen on Friday.

The report added that "tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles from the center".

The National Hurricane Center expects Jose to veer northeast later Thursday in an arc that keeps it off the East coast.

The animation showed Hurricane Jose as it continued making a loop in the Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda and the Bahamas and Post-Tropical Cyclone Irma moved north and weakened to a remnant low pressure area centered over southeastern Missouri.
