Apple Removes App Store From iTunes

Apple's iTunes 12.7 now focuses on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts and audiobooks.

While Apple expanded its iPhone lineup today, a software update delivered for iTunes on Windows and Mac PCs is slimming things down a bit.

The Apple Pay service is also getting an upgrade, allowing users to make peer-to-peer (P2P) payments through a new iMessage app, with authentication carried out using Touch ID biometrics. The update also entirely does away with the App Store and Ringtones (and Books for Windows users), leaving those items to live on the iOS devices where they're actually used and taking iTunes out of the equation.

To be honest, we will not miss it.

While Apple might be aiming for convenience and streamlining iTunes management, some users in Apple's discussion forums don't appear to happy with the decision.

For most people, though, it is the loss of the App Store which is the biggest surprise in iTunes 12.7.
