Taylor Swift has overtaken Adele by breaking YouTube's one-day streaming record with her music video for Look What You Made Me Do.

The new track had its official premiere at the MTV VMAs in Los Angeles and features her darker side leaving her former self behind her.

The 27-year-old is then seen dressed as a biker, a celebrity crashing their sports vehicle, a bank robber wearing a kitty mask and a dominatrix.

Swift's latest video is a controversial one, in particular due to the bath scene, which many fans have speculated is a reference to Kim Kardashian, who was tied up and left in a bathtub during a robbery at gunpoint in Paris past year.

Others have defended Swift and pointed out that while introducing her song Blank Space a few years ago, she made reference to her persona lounging in a bathtub full of pearls.

While her victory Monday night will raise expectations for what she can do in New York City, Sharapova's U.S. Sharapova has missed three of the past four US Opens , her last visit ending in the 2014 fourth round.

One clip shows a number of male dancers wearing crop tops with "I [heart] TS" emblazoned on them - a clear reference to the vest top with the same slogan which Tom was photographed in during their brief fling.

The British actor was photographed wearing a similar vest previous year when the couple were going out.

"Kim and Kanye don't care about Taylor's new music", an insider told People.

It's after fans compared their videos.

And, although she's no doubt basking in its success, she still found time to thank everyone involved for keeping the details of her highly-anticipated return to music under wraps.

They're then lined up in front of a plane with the name of her new album, Reputation, spray painted across it.

In the extra bit right after the song, the Taylors argue, saying, "There she goes, playing the victim ah-gain!" and "Stop acting like you're so nice, you're so fake!" The controversial video earned the spot as the most music video views in 24 hours and reached nearly 30 million views it's first day, which beat Adele's Hello who held the record of 27.7 million views.

Her album Reputation is set to be released on November 10.
