Orr was sentenced to 30 years for attempted murder and five years for a weapons violation, the maximum amount of prison time possible.
A violent attack on a SC police officer previous year was caught on a small camera attached to the officer's glasses, and that footage helped put away a suspect in an attempted murder case.
Officer Quincy Smith was called to investigate a suspicious man trying to steal groceries from a local convenience store.
Shortly after arriving, he confronted the man customers had described to him, later identified as 29-year-old Malcolm Antwan Orr, walking down the street while talking on his cellphone.
Smith survived the incident despite a bullet completely severing a vein in the right side of his neck.

The officer's mom, also a police officer, has established a GoFundMe page for her son as he recovers from his injuries. Orr continues to fire rounds at Smith as he goes to the ground, eight shots in total, before he flees.

Smith tells a dispatcher he thinks he's been hit in the neck and that his left arm is broken.
"Stay with me", Thompkins says. Smith said he prays for Orr and his family. "I'm not playing with you".
"If but not for the grace of God and some very good doctors, this would not only have been a murder case, but a death penalty case", 14th Circuit Solicitor Duffie Stone said in a statement. A paramedic removes Smith's glasses and moves them aside as Thompkins speaks with another officer as they develop a plan to pursue Orr.
With the men just feet apart, Smith points his stun gun at Orr.
