Consumer Reports just un-recommended Microsoft's Surface range

Consumer Reports Pulls Recommendation for Microsoft Laptops

The surface laptop was one of the devices to lose their recommendation

Influential reviewer Consumer Reports says that it no longer recommends Microsoft Surface tablets and laptops.

The evidence the firm is citing is that they surveyed 90,000 tablet and laptop owners and found that 25% of them had issues with the device within two years. According to Engadget, devices purchased from 2014 to 2017 have been showing problems that include freezing, mysterious shutdowns, and unresponsive touch screens. As you might imagine, Microsoft is already responding against these findings, stating that the company does not believe that the study "accurately reflects Surface owners' true experiences".

As much as I love my surface book it's extremely frustrating to have to constantly take a trip up to the Microsoft store to get my device replaced when my sister and friends have Macbooks that seem to last them years. Regarding the recommendation, Microsoft does not agree with Consumer Reports, stating that consumers provided different and positive experiences after purchasing the product.

"We use a product as any consumer would", Consumer Reports explained.

Microsoft Surface has been an industry redefining product since its inception.

Altogether, the reliability issues made Microsoft a statistical outlier compared with other brands.

Worth noting here is that this is not the first case where Consumer Reports has pulled recommendations. The power and form factor of Microsofts Surface line are almost unparalleled but if they can't consistently pump out devices that don't experience immediate defects past the normal wear and tear, I don't think their will be many people that remain loyal to the brand.

To get at reliability, the Consumer Reports National Research Center surveys our subscribers regularly.

In the same report, the firm found "that 25 percent of Microsoft laptops and tablets will present their owners with problems by the end of the second year of ownership".

When Microsoft held an event previous year, everybody thought that they were going to announce the Microsoft Surface Smartphone but that did not happen.

Microsoft, unsurprisingly, disagrees with CR.
