The New York Mets gave their first indication of looking ahead to 2018 and beyond.

The Rays made another big move today, acquiring 1B/DH Lucas Duda from the Mets. Word that the Mets had completed a deal for minor league relief pitcher Drew Smith for their long-time, veteran first baseman quickly filtered through the team, confirmed by the items being pulled and packed from his locker.

Meanwhile, Duda makes a bittersweet exit from NY.

It was unclear Thursday what would become of those policy reviews and Pentagon officials declined to discuss the status of those studies.

Tampa's No. 30 prospect: Duda is a good hitter and can be unsafe because of enormous power, but the return for a one-dimensional power-hitting first baseman isn't what it used to be-especially with free agency looming.

In exchange for Duda, the Rays sent minor-league righthander Drew Smith, who owns a 97 miles per hour fastball and a power curveball that could one day make him a key piece in the bullpen. He has stroked 17 home runs this season in 75 games, and has 125 home runs during his 8-year major league career, all with the Mets.

If Granderson really cared for Duda, he'd be happy to see him shipped to a playoff contender. Top prospect Amed Rosario is slated to arrive first, shortly after the trade deadline.

Speaking of Smiths, the Mets get a good one in 23-year-old Drew Smith, a hard-throwing reliever.
